According to a recent rumor, Glasgow Rangers are leading the competition to sign a bright new teenager for the Scottish Premiership.
With nine wins and just three losses in their first 12 games, Philippe Clement’s team has had an overall strong start to the new campaign. As a result, they are presently ranked second in the league table heading into the international break.
Though they now trail Old Firm rivals Celtic by eight points, the Light Blues still have a game in hand and have a chance to catch up and make a statement at the end of the season in their maiden campaign under the new boss.
Although the Ibrox team already has a strong roster, the board can still evaluate their options in the market as the next transfer window draws near. It looks like they have set their sights on Noah Mbamba, a defensive midfielder for Bayer Leverkusen who joined from Club Brugge in January.
The fact that the 18-year-old Belgium youth international has only made four senior appearances during that time illustrates how much he struggles to get playing time. However, if the latest update is to be believed, the player may have been given the perfect lifeline to boost his minutes.
Ranger team leads Noah Mbamba’s race
Rangers are reportedly in the lead for Mbamba, but it’s important to remember that the team may still struggle to close a deal in January. This is according to TEAMtalk.
“As the Citizens are not expected to pursue Noah Mbamba in January, when the Gers could score, Rangers are presently ahead of Manchester City in the race for him.
“TEAMtalk sources claim that 18-year-old prospect Noah Mbamba, who is currently playing for Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga, is one player the Scottish club is keeping an eye on.
Many elite teams are interested in the budding potential, but according to German insiders, a loan is most likely in the winter window. Any agreement would be challenging to execute, though, as insiders claim there is currently competition for the best adolescent talent.”
Despite not getting much of an opportunity to show off his skills this season due to Bayer Leverkusen, Mbamba has still managed to record a pass success rate of 94.4% (WhoScored – Mbamba statistics), which is higher than any player in Clement’s squad (WhoScored – Rangers statistics). This shows that Mbamba is calm and composed when handling the ball.
Standing at six feet one, Mbamba also contributed to the winning of four titles while he was at Club Brugge, so he may already have a winning attitude that would help him flourish in Scotland.
Football scout Jakek Kulig has called Mbamba a “huge talent,” and he can play four positions in the midfield, including center back. Should he sign a contract with Rangers, it would be a huge coup to have him in the building for the rest of the season.
