Liverpool’s title chances, Man City’s 115 FFP accusations, and the Premier League matchup are discussed by a rival supporter.
It would be understandable if Man City fans were thinking about a few things right now.
The 10-point deduction Everton received and the mounting pressure on the Premier League have made Man City’s 115 charges a major topic of conversation once more. Pep Guardiola is now busy, as familiar title rivals Liverpool are scheduled to visit on Saturday.
As Saturday’s pivotal encounter between Liverpool and Manchester City draws near, we chatted with a Citizen to hear their thoughts.
The top five teams are separated by just three points going into the game, with the remaining teams only a point apart. Sometimes it seems like City will win, but how do their supporters feel this time around?
“I think it’s going to be a tough match, [but] City fans are relatively confident,” Phoebe, a City supporter, told us.
Despite having numerous injury concerns, we are still able to have a starting lineup that is among the best in the world. Salah is the main cause for concern because of his prolific goal-scoring ability.
Only Erling Haaland has scored more goals in the league than the Egyptian forward, who has already scored 12 goals in all competitions this season. There’s a chance they’ll both add to their total over the weekend.
Although it’s a match between the top two teams in the league, do City supporters think Liverpool poses a threat in the fight for the championship?
“I believe they are yes,” Phoebe remarked. They have made midfield changes and investments in younger players, which is giving their forwards tremendous support.
It’s very difficult to stop Liverpool once they’re on a winning streak, but I still see City winning the championship at the end of the year.
Every year, Manchester City appears to end the season stronger than when it began. They had a run of more than 20 league games without a loss last year, and they only lost once after Boxing Day in 2018–19. However, these incredible streaks of historically significant violence are frequently necessary due to their sluggish beginnings, so perhaps now is the appropriate moment to take on the defending champions.
We also asked Phoebe about FFP; given Manchester City’s current probe and Everton’s recent point deduction, it’s an intriguing viewpoint.
She stated, “It certainly shows that the governing bodies mean business with FFP,” in response to a question about how fair Everton’s point deduction was.
Many have also made predictions about what would happen to City when the deduction was revealed, given that 115 Premier League rule violations were disclosed.
According to Phoebe, “City supporters are quite anxious because, should they be proven guilty, it’s clear that the punishment will be severe. However, the club is determined that they’ve done nothing wrong so hopefully it doesn’t come to anything.”
What will happen with those charges and Saturday’s match, in which Liverpool hopes to get ahead early in the title fight, are still unknowns.
