After Rangers playmaker Tom Lawrence excelled in a more advanced role during Sunday’s 2-0 victory over St. Mirren at Ibrox, Philippe Clement admitted that he ‘congratulated’ Lawrence on his strong performance.

In contrast to the two disappointing draws that were played against Aberdeen and Aris Limassol, this was a much more satisfying match. It was not the most convincing or free-flowing performance that the Rangers have had this season, but it was a significant improvement over their most recent performances.

And because Jose Cifuentes was having another difficult time when Aris arrived in town, the fact that Tom Lawrence was doing so well in a more advanced role in the middle of the pitch ought to have the Ecuadorian international player feeling apprehensive about his position. Clement, in particular, has been speaking in glowing terms about the manner in which Lawrence adapted to a position that Cifuentes has not yet successfully made his own.

St. Mirren is defeated by Rangers, and Tom Lawrence is thriving.
“I congratulated Tom after the game,” Clement says to Rangers Review. The Glasgow giants won the match 2-0 thanks to a pair of goals scored by Abdallah Sima and a pair of assists provided by Todd Cantwell.

Although it is not his typical position, I am looking for solutions in light of the fact that Ryan Jack is not available, Nicolas Raskin is not available, and Cifu is returning from an injury. With regard to Tom’s performance today, I was extremely pleased with it. The fact that we were able to maintain a high tempo on the ball is something that makes it challenging for our opponents.

Clement may have found a way to squeeze Lawrence into the same starting eleven despite the fact that Cantwell and Sam Lammers are competing for the “number ten” position. Lawrence, a former prospect for Manchester United, possesses the passing range and the technical ability that are necessary for a deep-lying playmaker position.
