The Christmas commercial for Scottish powerhouse Rangers Football Club has been brought to life with the assistance of Agency Boldpace and York’s Orillo Films. Fans and current and former players come together in the movie to show how the club is one big family on this holiday.
In the film’s epic conclusion, Paul Gascoigne, a Rangers legend, brings in a large stack of gifts while the entire squad applauds. Gascoigne is wearing a Rangers Christmas jumper.
Using a single location house, Orillo transformed the set into a dreamy Christmas scene filled with Rangers memorabilia during a single day of filming in Glasgow in early October. Three family members were portrayed as “fans,” and the football players were both former members of the club and current members of the men’s and women’s teams.
Director Chris Kirtley was able to incorporate some storyline into the spot without taking away from the footballers’ hectic schedule by using their talent. DP Jordan Clarke used whips and crash zooms to help the humorous moments land in the post-production stages, giving the piece a cozy, holiday feel.
Rangers: It’s Rangers All The Way this Christmas. “[It] was a great project to be part of; from seeing the script, I knew this would be a piece that would be well received by fans as well as anyone that loved Paul Gascoigne,” stated Keenan Foley, co-founder of Orillo Films. The biggest challenge was that we only had 90 minutes to film with our large football player cast, so during the preparation phase, we had to make sure our filming location was close to the training ground and large enough to fit the football players, crew, and cast all at once.
“We wanted to make this rival all the Christmas ads, so the quality needed to match, and the team did an amazing job turning the house into a Christmas scene in a relatively short period of time.”
“Rangers is a club with a truly rich heritage and the strength of togetherness throughout the organization was obvious from the moment we started working with the team,” said Nick Ford-Young, co-CEO of Boldspace. To show off the club’s deeply ingrained culture, fans, current players, and historical figures came together. By fusing nostalgia for the past with the energy of the present, we produced a show that we knew would appeal to both young and old supporters of the men’s and women’s teams.
