If everything goes according to plan, Derek Carr will be the starting quarterback for the New Orleans Saints when they take on the Carolina Panthers on Sunday. Following the game that took place the previous week, in which Carr sustained three separate injuries—a rib injury, a throwing shoulder injury, and a concussion—it appeared as though this outcome was extremely unlikely. Given that this is his second concussion in a span of less than a month, it was reasonable to predict that he would be required to sit out a game. The majority of players skip a game after suffering their first concussion.
Carr, on the other hand, has only participated in a limited capacity at Saints practice this week. In addition to that, he is performing the same first-team exercises as if it were a typical week of practice. If this is the case, then the Saints are likely to believe that he is on track to play. In order for Carr to participate in the game on Sunday, he must first clear the concussion protocol. Not only does it depend on how he is feeling.
After suffering a concussion earlier in the season, Chris Olave was restricted in his practice time but continued to participate in all of the games. In the event that Carr does not participate, this will be a missed opportunity to adequately prepare Jameis Winston to start against the Panthers.
