Pass-rush performance has been inconsistent for the Detroit Lions in 2023.

One of the team’s top producers last year, James Houston, has missed all but two games. Houston was optimistic before the season, but an injury has kept him out for much of it.

Houston wants to help his teammates when it counts. Fortunately, his health allows him to return before the playoffs.

His recovery to NFL game rigor depends on playing before games become win-or-go-home.

“It’s extremely important just so I can get my feet under me and get a couple games before,” he remarked. “Postseason play is harder and more elevated. Many of you haven’t played postseason games, but those who have say they’re different. You need to up your game.”

The second-year defender has spent much of the season recuperating, but not playing has kept him fresh for the crucial stretch. He will return to the Lions healthy and like he did at the start of the season.

The trade-off is that. Houston indicated that everyone else has had nicks, bumps, or morning pain. “Good for me. I’m fresh. I feel ready for the season. I aim to be well enough for another camp by the time I leave.”

Houston has been sidelined since Week 2 and has experienced many emotions. He’s had mixed thoughts about his return to the field as his comeback nears.

A sense of uneasiness is rising. Just the buildup “Said Houston. “It’s a mix of nervousness, eagerness, and other things. Your ready to get back on the field and feel normal and comfortable again.”

The Lions have lost several key players this season. Safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson has been out since Week 2 with a torn pec.

Gardner-Johnson has stated his desire to return. The defense would benefit from the veteran safety’s talent and confidence.

Houston and Gardner-Johnson intend to energize the unit when they return.

“I think we’re both top players. Houston stated that we can alter our season, defense, and anything else. The defense can benefit from these two guys. He’s excited, so am I. I think we can do a lot. I think A.G. wants us back, and it should be great.”
