Tyreke Smith, an outside linebacker for the Seattle Seahawks, was traded to a rival team in the division on Friday. Smith had spent the most of his first healthy campaign in the National Football League on the practice squad.

It was verified on the official website of the Seattle Seahawks that Smith, who was selected by the Cardinals in the fifth round of the 2022 NFL Draft from Ohio State, has joined with the active roster of the Cardinals. Hamilcar Rashed, a free agency defensive end, was signed by the Seahawks to fill the void left by Smith on the practice squad. This move was a corresponding transaction.

Smith was placed on the PUP list and injured reserve on multiple occasions throughout his rookie season because of a hip issue that caused him to miss the rest of the season. Upon his comeback in the spring, he participated in the offseason program, training camp, and preseason in order to push for a roster position as a reserve. As a result, he was selected for the initial 53 roster.

However, after Smith participated in a game against the Lions in Week 2 and recorded a tackle, the Seahawks decided to cut him and re-sign him to the practice squad. Since then, Smith has stayed on the practice squad and has not participated in any additional regular season games. He will now be joining a Cardinals squad that has been plagued by injuries on the defensive line, which will provide him with the opportunity to acquire crucial playing time during the regular season.
