Zack Wheeler, following Yoshinobu Yamamoto’s pass
While the Phillies were disappointed not to land Yoshinobu Yamamoto, they will not let that dissuade them from their pursuit of Zack Wheeler’s extension.
Just like the other clubs who were interested in Yoshinobu Yamamoto before he signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Philadelphia Phillies will soon have to change their focus and move in a different direction. The Phillies have shifted their focus to one of their own, Zack Wheeler, while other clubs are eyeing other free agents.
One of the league’s most lethal starting duos will be together for at least another season thanks to Philadelphia’s huge move in free agency, when they re-signed Aaron Nola to a seven-year, $172 million contract. The Phillies would apparently prefer to extend Wheeler’s contract as soon as possible, though, as his current one is in its last year.
According to insiders, extending the contract of star player Zack Wheeler is the first priority, followed by some minor enhancements. It was always their intention to do so, regardless of whether they were fortunate enough to sign Yamamoto. After the next season, Wheeler will be eligible to sign with any team that wants him.
