The 49ers received a bye in the first round of the playoffs and rested quarterback Brock Purdy in the final game of the regular season.
When Purdy plays Saturday against the Packers, it will be his first game in 20 days.
But 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan says Purdy won’t get rusty because the 49ers give him a heavy workload during off-time when he’s not playing opposing defenses.
“He didn’t have a week off.We kicked him out of the block.
Meet and practice,” Shanahan said.
“He’s been here, he’s been working on his days off, we had two training sessions last week that were bigger than a normal week, and Brock went out with the boys on Monday and did some stuff.
We’ll be working with him from now on.
We are planning to do two training sessions again.

I’m not worried about this potentially having any impact on Saturday’s block.

Coaches of playoff-winning teams must always find a balance between keeping their best players healthy and protecting them from rust.
Shanahan is confident he made the right decision against Purdy.
