Detroit’s Hamilton Township (FOX 2) – Early on Thursday morning, a well-liked Harrison Township restaurant that local families frequented caught fire and burned to the ground.
Multiple fire departments were dispatched to the Jefferson Avenue scene; no casualties were reported, but the building is now out of action. On Facebook, the Benvenuto team said that the restaurant “suddenly caught fire in the middle of the night” and that they would be closing permanently. We would like to express our gratitude to the Harrison Township Fire Department and the Macomb County Sheriff’s Department for their prompt reaction. We also appreciate our loving Benvenuto family, friends, and clients for making this an amazing experience for us! We ask that you please remember us at this terrible and trying time.” the post was read.
When most of the teams arrived, flames were shooting out of the building and through the roof, according to the battalion chief of the Harrison Township Fire Department.
“arrived at this location. “They confirmed they had flames coming through the roof when our first ladder arrived from our station across the street,” stated Jason Groth. “They quickly stretched through the front door, tried to get control of the fire and do a search.”
After using the second story on the back of the structure to conduct a search, firefighters had to quickly evacuate since the fire had knocked down the roof.
Wintertime has unique challenges for fighting flames because, although the cold doesn’t stop them, it does make it more difficult to contain them. While freezing temperatures can block fire hydrants and even limit the movement of a responding fireman, snow can make surfaces slick.
