The Pittsburgh Steelers were dead in the water when the 2023 season ended. After going 7-4, the Steelers lost three straight games to fall to 7-7 and their playoff hopes were gone – until Mike Tomlin handed the keys to veteran quarterback Mason Rudolph. The Steelers have won their last three games as Rudolph posted a 118 passer rating, an average of 240 yards per game and three touchdowns. Pittsburgh made the finals on the last day of the season, losing to Buffalo Bill in the wildcard round.Rudolph is set to become a free agent in March, but the team has expressed interest in re-signing him.“[I] visited with Mike T and Omar [Khan] both,” Rudolph said on The Ramon Foster Show. “I felt like they meant it when they said they’d like to have me back, and I feel like they want to do future business with me. That’s good to hear. But, like you said, there are so many variables and it’s still so early…”.
The Steelers have a lot of options at quarterback. They could bring in a big-name free agent or make a sweeping trade. They could also go back in the NFL draft or eventually bring back Rudolph.Who the Steelers hire as offensive coordinator will certainly affect what they do under center. As the first domino falls, we begin to see the bigger picture take shape..
