Ben Foster feels that the Liverpool administration must choose one manager to take over for Jurgen Klopp at the end of the current campaign.
Last week, Jurgen Klopp revealed that he would be departing Anfield at the end of the season, which was one of the most surprising revelations the Premier League has ever seen.
Liverpool is once again atop the standings thanks to Klopp. Of course, in his time on Merseyside, he has won almost everything.
Ben Foster says Xabi Alonso is perfect for Liverpool
Unsurprisingly, Xabi Alonso is on Liverpool’s radar. Xabi Alonso was a hero during his time with the club. And he has made a brilliant start to his managerial career. Bayer Leverkusen currently sit top of the Bundesliga table. And they are currently unbeaten in the league this year.
Alonso is therefore, the obvious pick for many. And speaking on his YouTube channel, Ben Foster suggested that the 42-year-old is the only candidate Liverpool can look to to fill the void Klopp is set to leave.
“We’re speaking about Xabi Alonso, he’s doing a fantastic job out in Germany at this moment in time, Bayer Leverkusen. I think they’re undefeated still at the start of the season, 19 games, which is just absolutely incredible,” he said.
“But I think from my perspective, it’s just the most perfect time for Liverpool to give it to someone like Xabi, because they’ve basically not really got a lot to lose, have they? You speak to any Liverpool fan, they’ll all say we want Xabi Alonso as our next manager. And if Liverpool go and do something different to that, it’s almost like they’re making a rod for their own back, aren’t they?

“I think that whether they are a success with him or not, they have to do this, don’t they?”
A lot can change before Jurgen Klopp steps aside
Foster makes a very good point. Liverpool have to at least consider who all of the supporters want to come in, given the love the fans have for Klopp.
It is going to be a difficult job on its own. And it may nearly be impossible if the fans are not won over fairly quickly.
Liverpool fans are incredibly patient with those who buy into what the club stands for. And they will have absolutely no doubt that Alonso will do that.
Much can change by the time the season ends. Leverkusen’s title charge could fade away. And many Liverpool fans will hope that Klopp experiences a change in heart and decides to stick around.
But there’s no denying that Alonso would be many fans’ sole option if Liverpool were to name a manager tomorrow.
