It could turn out that Bill O’Brien’s time as Ohio State’s offensive coordinator is extremely brief.O’Brien is supposedly vying to become the head coach of Boston College. According to a Boston Herald article by Rich Thompson, O’Brien and Boston College are already “down to the minor details” in their talks. O’Brien would receive a substantial financial commitment from the Eagles, and an announcement might be made by Wednesday.

Although the shift would be sudden, there probably would be a rationale. O’Brien was raised in Massachusetts and is originally from Boston. This would be a far easier adjustment for him than relocating to Columbus to work for the Buckeyes, considering he spent last season as the offensive coordinator of the New England Patriots.

O’Brien was a significant addition for Ohio State as they aim for a championship in 2024. The Buckeyes would undoubtedly suffer a hit if he were to go so soon, having to start again in terms of organizing their 2024 offense.

It might also have an effect on the players they have added, such as the one who transferred to Ohio State citing O’Brien as a factor.

The search for a new head coach at Boston College is underway as Jeff Hafley unexpectedly left to take a position as an assistant in the NFL.
