In a stunning move, Cao Yupeng flung his cue on the ground during the final set of his Welsh Open loss to Mark Allen. The 33-year-old was disappointed that he had come so close to pulling off a major upset after the Chinese star had built up a 52-point advantage but missed a vital shot with the remaining points.

In their best-of-seven contest, Cao had raced into a 3-1 lead and was on the verge of knocking out one of the tournament’s favourites. With Ronnie O’Sullivan and Judd Trump absent it is a wide-open event but the 33-year-old struggled to put his Northern Ireland opponent away.

He will have been frustrated at not putting Allen away sooner, however, as the Pistol rallied from 68-0 down in the fifth frame with a stunning 70 clearance to peg Yupeng back.
