Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga has been loaned to Bournemouth for the entire season, the Premier League teams announced on Thursday.

In order to ensure that he stays with Chelsea beyond his loan to Bournemouth and does not depart for no transfer fee, 29-year-old Kepa extended his contract with the club until 2026.

The previous season, the Spain international was sent on loan to Real Madrid, where he played in 20 games, replacing the injured Thibaut Courtois and contributing to the team’s victories in both La Liga and the Champions League.

After paying 71 million pounds ($93.61 million) to join Chelsea in August 2018, Kepa became the most expensive custodian in history. Along with Chelsea, he won the Champions League in 2019, the Europa League the following year, and the Club World Cup in 2022.
