An ex-Gers star has expressed admiration for the Belgian for being squarely in the center.

According to Kevin Thomson, Philippe Clement’s candor with Rangers supporters has earned him as much praise as his current record.

With Sunday’s tie at Aberdeen being their first league loss, the Gers have won every game since the Belgian replaced Michael Beale. The only other match they haven’t won was a draw in the Europa League against Sparta Prague. Pundits and supporters have been impressed, and a significant portion of that will always come from the outcomes.

However, it seems that with Clement, you get what you see thus far.Compared to previous managers who had their followers perform a “wee merry dance” with their remarks in the press, Thomson realizes that has also benefited him and that fans have found it refreshing.

“I like the early signs for Clement, I like his interviews, I like how direct he is, how relatable he is, how he speaks and how he presents himself,” the former Giants midfielder said to Safebettingsites.com.

“I don’t think he makes you do a little happy dance when he talks to the media.

“It feels like he answers your questions honestly and concisely, without trying to pull a face, which I believe has happened in the past.

“I believe that in the past, people were beginning to see through that, and even more so when the results weren’t showing up.”

Despite being five points behind Celtic in the league, Thomson believes his former team has a chance to challenge them for the championship. He also believes it’s critical that they defeat Aberdeen in the Viaplay Cup final.

“Listen, I still think Celtic will be a tough nut to crack, but Rangers have a chance because they are only five points behind and there are still three Old Firms left to play.” he continued.

“Remember that Rangers are only five points behind and that they have already fired their manager.”

“They must win the cup, as that would put them in a good position, but they still have other games to win at that time.

“I believe the new manager has an advantage in that he has earned some leeway.”
