Four Liverpool players may choose to go on to fresh opportunities when their contracts expire at the end of the current campaign.
Thiago and Joel Matip are among the players whose contracts are slated to expire in 2024; four more players may depart Liverpool on free transfers after four left on summer transfers last year.
The likes of Roberto Firmino, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, James Milner and Naby Keita all departed on free transfers last summer and manager Jurgen Klopp now has a decision to make about the futures of four other players with the January transfer market on the horizon.
Liverpool must start considering their options because players whose contracts expire at the end of the current campaign can start negotiating moves elsewhere in January.
Dimas
Over the summer, only the veteran midfielder from Liverpool, along with Keita, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Fabinho, Milner, and Jordan Henderson, stayed at Anfield.
Due to a hip issue, Thiago hasn’t played in a game this season, and it looks likely that he will depart the team when his contract expires the next year. There may be a need for a fresh start because Thiago has been linked to teams like Juventus, Inter Milan, and Barcelona. Additionally, new arrivals Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Ryan Gravenberch have all impressed while he has been out.
It is unfortunate that injuries have prevented fans from witnessing Thiago at his peak more frequently since he chose to transfer from Bayern Munich to Liverpool in 2020. Thiago is a fantastic performer when healthy.
Matip Joel
Since joining Liverpool on a free transfer from Schalke in 2016, the center back has performed admirably, helping the team win the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, and Carabao Cup.
Matip is apparently also planning to quit Anfield when his contract expires at the end of the current campaign. It appears Klopp will try to make similar defensive changes in the summer after overhauling their midfield this summer.
It wouldn’t be shocking to see Matip go on, as Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate are Klopp’s first-choice duo when available, while academy graduate Jarell Quansah is having a fantastic breakout season.
Adrián
Adrian’s one-season contract extension with Liverpool may have surprised some given that he only made one Community Shield appearance in the previous season.
The 36-year-old, though, is a good option as Alisson and Caoimhin Kelleher’s backup because to his extensive Premier League experience. Even though Adrian hasn’t played a game yet this season, it wouldn’t be shocking if he signed another agreement the following summer.
Adrian may get more opportunities to play next season as there have been rumors that Kelleher may be moving in search of more consistent first-team action.
Bryan Bradley
Bradley was destined to feature in the first team at Anfield this season after making an impression while on loan at League One team Bolton Wanderers the previous campaign, where he won player of the year as they advanced to the playoffs.
However, the 20-year-old has not yet participated in a competitive game due to a stress fracture to his back sustained during the off-season. Though no formal announcement has been made as of yet, reports from the summer purported that he had reached an agreement on conditions for a new three-year contract.
However, it is likely that Liverpool will extend Bradley’s contract because Klopp is rumored to be a huge supporter of the right-back and Trent Alexander-Arnold is currently enjoying a “hybrid” role that sees him frequently shifting into midfield.
