A quarterback dispute surrounds the New York Giants going into the 2024 summer. The Giants are apparently aiming to “pick their quarterback this offseason,” despite having just given Daniel Jones
a four-year, $160 million contract last offseason.
Giants are reportedly excited to select a quarterback in the summer.
In his latest mock draft, NFL analyst Tony Pauline had the Giants selecting LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels with the No. 6 overall choice. Although Pauline recognized that Jones was a member of the team, he stated that he has heard from individuals close to the Giants’ management that the team’s top brass is considering selecting a new quarterback in the draft.
This one is difficult. After giving Daniel Jones a deal last year, I didn’t expect the Giants would choose a quarterback at this position, but sources close to the team keep telling me Joe Schoen and Brian Daboll will select their quarterback this offseason.
For Big Blue, Daniels may be a perfect fit as a dual-threat quarterback who enjoys taking long passes downfield. This season, Daniels was the Heisman Trophy winner after he completed 3,812 passes for 40 touchdowns and added 1,134 yards and 10 more in the air.
In 2024, who might the Giants select as a quarterback?
- The G-Men will be considering a lot of quarterback choices in this year’s draft, in addition to Daniels, who Pauline had the Giants select in his mock selection.
Caleb Williams, a quarterback for USC who won the Heisman Trophy in 2022 and finished his last two seasons with 8,170 yards and 72 touchdowns against just 10 interceptions, is widely regarded as the team’s best prospect. Barring a spectacular trade up to the first pick in the draft, he is anticipated to be off the board well before the Giants make their selection.
With the sixth overall pick, Daniels is the more practical choice, even though his draft stock has been rising recently.Daniels should be drafted as the second quarterback overall, according to Field Yates of ESPN. Thus, a trade-up for Daniels might also be required, similar to Williams.
Drake Maye of UNC is another excellent choice in the draft class. In 2023, he passed for 3,608 yards, 24 touchdowns, and just nine interceptions. Maye is another intriguing prospect for the Giants, probably in a trade-up situation, as he has the ideal size for the position.
There are more quarterbacks in this class to take into consideration outside the top three: J.J. McCarthy of Michigan, Michael Penix Jr. of Washington, and Bo Nix of Oregon. Currently regarded as fringe first-round picks, all three of these talents may ultimately be selected in the second round. The Giants may choose to select one of the tier-two quarterbacks in the second round if they are unable to select their quarterback in the first round.
