FRISCO – Almost as strange as the Dallas Cowboys’ lack of effort in trying to find their next running back (sorry, Rico Dowdle!), is the rapid decline of Dameon Pierce, the nearly-star back for the Houston Texans.

Pierce, who was selected by the Texans in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft, was hailed by coaches as a “Our Kind of Guy” because of his gritty running style. At Florida, he was neither highly regarded nor highly utilized.Subsequently, Pierce made a huge impact on the field, amassing 939 rushing yards and four touchdowns in 13 games for a terrible Houston club in 2022. He proved his adaptability in addition to his toughness by adding 30 receptions for 165 yards and another touchdown.Devin Singletary, a free agent, defeated him the previous year. Joe Mixon is now in Houston from Cincinnati, where he will play every down back for the Texans under head coach C.J. Stroud. As far as we know, Pierce’s behavior is not a problem; the Texans are just able to find someone somewhat better. Here’s a suggestion for a trade target from writer David Howman of Blogging the Boys: Pierce.

If you read this space, you are aware that we occasionally reject a lot of these wild, fanciful trade proposals, frequently because we can reason them through with those who work here at The Star. However, this one? Not a shoot-down. and clear-cut reasoning.Indeed, the Cowboys want to choose a running back with a draft pick who may wind up starting. However, that child won’t be any cheaper (or even much younger) than Dameon Pierce. All things considered, this looks like a simple and sensible stone for Jerry Jones’ front office to investigate.
